Traditional Method of Making a Natural Broom

The object shown in the picture is a cleaning tool called a broom or Jhata. It is made using the upper parts of the lentil plant. After the lentil is removed from the plant, the remaining upper portion is cut and separated. Then it is thoroughly dried, collected and tied together which gives it the form of a broom used for cleaning homes.

This natural broom symbolizes the fact that the Chaudhri community lives in close connection with nature and predominantly uses items made from natural materials in their daily life.
