Traditional Grinding Mill of the Chaudhri Tribe

The object shown in the picture is called “Jata”, which is also known as a traditional grinding mill “Chakki”. It is used by the Chaudhri community for grinding grains. This tool is completely connected with nature and traditional lifestyle.

If you observe carefully, its structure is made from stone and wood. The lower part is made of stone, and the upper part is also made of stone. A wooden handle is attached, which is used to rotate and operate the mill.

There is a space in the middle where grains are placed. When it is rotated, the grains get crushed between the two stones and come out as flour. Different kinds of grains such as wheat flour, rice and barley can be ground using this mill.
