Black Pottery Being Fired in an Open Kiln

The black pottery seen in the image is being prepared by the Tangkhul Tribe living in Manipur. After shaping, the pottery is fired in an open kiln.You can see that wood is arranged all around, with the pottery placed in the center. Fire is lit underneath using wood, and additional wood is placed on top along with the pottery to ensure even heating.

This process helps in hardening the pottery and gives it its characteristic black color. It reflects traditional techniques and the hard work of the artisans.
