Warli Wood Art Depicting Tarpa Dance and Peacock

This is an amazing example of Warli wood art. In this artwork, you can see how traditional Warli painting has been transformed into wood art.

The artwork is created on a beautiful ochre-colored background with white paintings. Earlier, the ochre color was made using natural red soil, but nowadays acrylic colors are commonly used.Similarly, in earlier times white color was prepared by grinding rice, whereas today acrylic colors are used to give a refined white finish.

If you observe carefully, one part of the artwork shows a peacock, while the other part depicts people of the Warli tribe performing the Tarpa dance along with the Tarpa musical instrument. The entire artwork is created on a wooden surface, representing the traditional style of Warli art.
