Course Overview

Saipikhup is a traditional handloom textile of the Thadou/Kuki Tribe in Manipur, recognized for its bold geometric patterns and strong cultural symbolism. Traditionally woven on backstrap looms, the textile represents social identity, customary practices, and community traditions. The craft reflects indigenous knowledge of weaving techniques, colour symbolism, and material use while continuing to adapt to contemporary textile applications.
