The Thadou-Kuki community typically uses seven bamboo pipes, while some other groups may use up to nine. It is also known by different names in various regions, such as Rawchhem in the Mizo community, Rusem in the Kom tribe, and Ejuk Tapung in the Mishing community.

This instrument is mainly used during traditional festivals, community gatherings, and cultural performances.
