A Tribal Woman Operating a Traditional Hand Mill

The woman shown in the picture is grinding grains (wheat, rice, kodoo) using a traditional hand mill called a Janta (chakki). In the old days, this tool was used to grind various grains to make food items. This mill is entirely natural, made of stone and wood. It consists of a circular stone at the bottom and another circular stone on top. The grains are placed in between, and by rotating it with a wooden handle, the grains are ground into flour.
