Traditional Group Dance and Festival of the Baiga Community

This photograph depicts the Baiga community celebrating a collective and joyous festival while wearing their traditional attire. The women are dressed in sarees with the pallu draped forward, reflecting their cultural identity. It is believed that wearing a saree with the pallu in this manner signifies participation in sacred household rituals. The women also cover their foreheads with a chunni (scarf).

The men wear dhoti-kurta along with turbans on their foreheads. In their hands, they hold mandar and dhol drums of various sizes, made from animal hide, clay, and bamboo wood, often decorated with colors. The scene clearly shows the group gathered in one place to dance together. Women typically form the edges, while men occupy the center, playing the mandar, and all participants dance in unison.
